What happened to my display?

I have a damaged LCD screen and the case around it is also bent. I figured it would sell as a desktop because the computer still worked with an external display. I had it hooked up to my television. I found plenty of buyers (because of the very low price), so then my next step was to restore it to factory settings. This seemed impossible. I found one discussion on apple that was very vague and did not explain exactly how they did it. The problem is when you boot the computer in recovery mode, it defaults to the laptop screen. Keep in mind I cannot see anything on the laptop display. After several phone calls with Apple, I concluded and discussed wiping it remotely via iCloud with the find my device feature. This worked, however when the laptop rebooted itself, the image on my television was completed messed up. I have a feeling it can be fixed by restoring it to the factory settings, but now my problem is worse than before because I am unable to see anything. I can hardly see the mouse, and when I tried rebooting it holding down option + command + p + r I got to the screen where the computer asks me (through audio) what language I want to select. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Are there any secret keyboard shortcuts that could help? My screen looks like this:

It would be nice to troubleshoot this myself, but I may have to take it to a store so they can remote in? I have another macbook, but am not sure how to remote in. That would be my next step, but I already have an appointment scheduled. I was hoping to avoid paying their ridiculous prices. Please let me know if you've ever seen this before or if there is a way to remote in and also make it to the recovery startup.

How are you connecting to the external monitor? At boot the machine should automagically detect the display if is connected at boot.

Are you certain the video connectors are secure (firm, tight?) and that the video cable is not damaged or running over/around magnets of speakers?

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

The cable is good to go because it was working before I did the remote wipe via iCloud's find my device. It is very close to my sub and speaker system so I will try that. But again, it was all working perfectly fine (on the external display), and located in the same spot.

I though the image was from your monitor, and I was asking about the external cable connecting the laptop to the monitor - it it's passing big speakers you cold be seeing some inference (aka noise) on the blank video signal from that. Though rerouting the internal cables can cause problems, stress, tears, nicks, pulling connectors loose as you close up the case.
