Do I have to have the fitting plate on my screen cables?

I tried to replace the screen on an iPhone 5. After attaching the cables and making sure it worked fine, I screwed the fitting plate down and the screen died. I read on here where that is a problem. I've already reordered another screen and I'm afraid that it will happen again. Do I have to have the plate on there? Can I use electrical tape instead?

There should not be a prolen to leave the fitting plate out, but you really should find out why this happens... I had a similar problem once, and found out that it was a bad fitting on the unoriginal screen, that got just a little flexcable-strecth or bend so that it lost contact. The solution for me was to make a preassure piece on top of the fitting plate, that pushed the connector in place when the phone was fully put together again.

Hope this can help you in any way. Good luck

So should I put electrical tape on it or just leave the plate off? I don't want to risk another screen shorting out.

When you say fitting plate, do you mean the metal LCD Shield with the LSI on it or the plate that fits over the cable connections?

The LCD Shield is for structural purposes only. Without it the LCD will flex unnecessarily and will have the LCD break faster.

If you mean the latter: The plate is there to keep the connections from popping out of their contacts on a hard knock if you drop your phone. Also make sure that you have the proper pads on each flex cable and on the bottom of the plate. You might be shorting the screen out because there's no padding between the connection and the metal plate. To prevent shorting I recommend that you place electrical tape over the connections and then place the plate over.
