That question mark means that the computer is not finding a hard drive or any other volume or disk that it can start up from. Is this a computer that was working properly earlier? Or is this a used computer that you've just acquired? If the latter, there's a chance it's missing a hard drive. A good first step in troubleshooting would be to start up from a Mac OS X installer DVD (by inserting the DVD and holding down the "c" when restarting the computer). Then I believe you can run the System Profiler and/or Disk Utility to get some idea of what's up with the hard drive.

you might also want to try resetting the parameter RAM (PRAM) by holding down Cmd Option P R when rebooting

This actually means that the startup disk is not specified, to specify this, hold option at startup, then choose your HD, and you can permanently change this in System Preferences. However, your HDD could be fried as well, in which case, you will need to replace it.

Hello, Thanks for your time, but it seems that the problems is with the HDD, and i gave it to recover Masters.

I hope they can recover the info on that hdd.

Thanks once again for time.

Glad you got it diagnosed, and hopefully you can get your data. Always back up! :)

To clarify, mister790 is correct, it means the system cannot find a volume to boot from. Even if there is no startup disk set in preferences, the system will still look for something else to boot from and then go with it. For example, if you set the startup disk to the OS DVD and restart, it will happily boot to the DVD. Now restart again and hold down the mouse button to eject the disk on reboot. It will eject the DVD before trying to find a volume to boot from, meaning that the startup disk selected (the DVD) will not be valid. It might flash a question mark at you for a second, but very very soon after will find the OS on the hard drive and boot from it automatically. When I did it on my laptop, I never even saw the question mark. It just booted to the HD and was happy. Insert the DVD for the next boot and it will boot from that, as it is still the selected boot volume.
