Display malfuntions but external monitor works fine, Graph. Card Prob?

Hi,

I started up my macbook recently and as it started up, horizontal lines appeared. Soon, these lines spread over the whole screen and slowly the screen dimmed till all the screen was black. On repeated attempts to restart the computer, as soon as I turn it on, the lines appear but quickly dim to black.

I connected to an external monitor and it displays of the separate monitor perfectly. Does this mean the LCD is defective or could it be a graphics card issue? I have checked the cable connections and they seem fine and undamaged.

Any answers are appreciated!

This is a display problem since the external works. I know you probably don't have a spare but when you get a new one in, you can disconnect the old one and hook up the new one without removing the old display to insure that your efforts will work.

Thanks, for some reason, today i turned on the computer and the display worked normally for the first time in a few weeks. Up till now, i could see absolutely nothing exempt lines. Now, there is no problem whatsoever. I have no idea why but suspect a loose connection must be the reason. Thanks for the answer!

If it starts giving you problems again, disconnect then reconnect the LDVS cable to the logic board slot. Make sure the bras lock will drop into place to make sure it is fully inserted.
