How to use the hard drive itself as an external hard drive?

So, I took the front panel off my iPod classic ages ago and it's been sitting on a shelf since then. Now I'm wondering if I could make something useful out of it...

Would it be possible to take the hard drive OUT of the iPod Classic and use it as a flash drive/external hard drive?

Obviously I'm gonna get the "yes it's possible" and the "sure, just hook up your ipod to a computer" answers, but what kind of cable do I need? What connector can be used with the hard drive (not the 30-pin cable for the ipod classic itself)?
