got 3 LCD lights on have overridden cables tying to get forth

so I got this 24 inch iMac on the Ebay because I got one earlier this month with ghost image on display and I thought I could at least get a good monitor in the 'for parts not working' section of... Any way the unit gets three LCD lights and nothing else. I have by passed the dc-in power cords by lighting up the hard drive with an external power supply, and sata to sata -ing the hard drive. still no forth LCD. My question is, "What is the probability that the logic board is no good so that I should buy a new MB and transfer all the external components to it?" Thanks

Up date. Tried the heat with butane torch-got a couple of crack crack sounds during the process-had to stop when the lighter got to hot (24 inch 2.8 GHz 2007) plug it in with 2 different 1 Gb memory. Got 3 lights-then immediately went to One light-removed one mem-three LED's to one-removed both memory sticks and back to three lights-SHOOT forgot to re-test with external monitor. Update later

Slim to none it's a board problem

LED #4

Indicates that the computer and the LCD display panel are communicating. This LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and video signal is being generated.

Connect to an external monitor to rule the GPU/VGC in or out. If you see nothing the problem is likely the GPU/VGC. If you see a normal display the onboard cables, connectors or the screen could be the problem.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Thanks is there a key command that causes the Imac to use the external monitor vs the internal? I also have a 20 inch 2007 doing the same thing after replacing the logic board because of no LED lights-the only common thing in both the 20 and 24 inch is the memory sticks-with bad memory could I even get 3 lights? thanks again

No - it "automagically" detects a display and matches the signal... you're thinking about Winduhows laptops that had a function switch.

will, LED # 4 is Off: The video card and logic board are unable to communicate to generate video. Replace the video card and install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update.. If the issue persists, replace the LCD display. Since you "got one earlier this month with ghost image on display" try to either exchange the LCD's or the Video card and see what you get after you check with an external monitor. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks OT, the LCD's both worked in other machines. Just checked with external monitor-no signal on the 20 inch I'll check with the 27" on Monday. Any way to refry a graphics processing chip back into existence, on the card or is the recommendation that I need new card? Thanks again

さんによる

That will depend on where the damage is on the video card. You could try to reflow (please do not fry anything:-) of the GPU.

odd thing is On the 27 inch. the seller may have replaced the original GPU (265+or min) with a 512 GPU (belongs on a 2008 model)- that is what I thought I saw when I was replacing the thermal paste-thanks for the fry update

OK no hot oil. The re-flows that I have looked at on internet suggests OVEN 385 degrees ON ALUMINUM BALLS let cool for a long time VS. SMALL BUTANE TORCH until you smell the reflow. Thank You in advance (all suggest GPU print side up)

I did check you tube videos on re-balling-too complicated. The only video card i could replace it with currently will only display properly in 'safe' mode-in regular mode there are video aspects of black and white squares in different patterns. I guess that is better that nothing as far as testing goes. I'll give it a try-thanks
