No backlight after LCD replacement

Hi all, after a lot of work I replaced the LCD of my Macbook Pro 13 but when powering it back on there is no backlight on the LCD. I can just about see the display so I know the LCD is ok.

I have checked the small connector is securely connected to the LCD board and the LCD cable is securely fastened at both ends.

What could I have missed? Is the backlight separate from the LCD?

Thanks

A bit more reading and it looks like it could be a backlight fuse issue. Does anyone know where it is on this model and how to test it? It could be the backlight itself but I don't want to remove the LCD unless I am sure because there is a high chance it may break in the process and it wasn't cheap!

It ended up being an incompatible part number. My original display was LSN133DL01 and the replacement was LSN133DL02. When trying another known good LSN133DL02 the backlight still didn't illuminate but when replacing the entire top assembly (containing a LSN133DL01 panel) it worked. I know the LED backlight was working as when I used the original LSN133DL01 board on the original top assembly the backlight illuminated. Very weird but finally resolved.

Adam, the fuse is reference designator F9700 and it is a 3amp 32V SMD fuse in a 467 package. Next question I expect would be where the LED driver is, for that you will have to post an image of both sides of your logicboard (Hi Res would be great). To get to the backlight of your LCD, you will have to totally dismantle your LCD. The strips are part of the top and bottom of the frame surrounding the LCD panel. Not an easy task if you have never done it. Whole bunch of diffuser etc are all part of the LCD panel. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the info :) I think I have just this second resolved the problem (see my latest post below) but really appreciate the info you sent.

You have an LED screen... no CFL backlight so I agree with a bad fuse/aka controller diagnosis. I don't know the location but one of the other volunteers may.

Thanks for that. It would be interesting to see a picture of the LCD assembly with the LCD panel removed so I can see if it is possible that the LED strip was damaged or not. Is it a line of LEDs do you know?

If it is the controller I assume Apple would probably repair under warranty seeing as the LCD is now repaired.

Tried resetting the PRAM too but that didn't help.

Also found a couple of pics form the 15'' teardown that better show what the LEDs probably look like:

I know I won't be able to separate the LCD panel to inspect the LEDs so might bite the bullet and return to Apple hoping it is the backlight fuse at fault and they repair it. I can't see how they would separate the LCD without damaging it anyway, perhaps they replace the assembly?

In a moment of clarity I had an idea, to install the controller board from the broken LCD to see if the screen lit up at all. Lo and behold, the screen lit up and the brightness controls on the keyboard would control it too so it appears I was sent a faulty LCD panel. I have contacted the supplier to see where to go from here as I doubt I can remove the panel without breaking it. Annoying as the job takes hours so I have to undo and redo my work again :(
