Help! Broke off small connector during heat sink replacement

Hey everyone,

I just broke off the connector from my logic board on my Macbook Pro 15" core 2 duo during the heat sink replacement. The computer is 7 years old (Fall 2007 - A1226) now, so the connectors are very brittle and it basically just disintegrated upon disconnection.

The connector in question is in the bottom left of the picture here next to the RAM compartment: https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/ig...

Is there any way to replace it? The female part of the connection just fell apart into 5 pieces.

What no longer works if I don't replace it?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

is the connector in question, that is your battery connector. If you do not have it connected you will not have any battery power etc. The connector is a SM04B-ACH type and not an easy one to find. Sometimes you can find them at places like this.. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi oldturkey,

Thanks for the reply. The connector circled in red is indeed the one I broke off. Are they specific to Macbooks or are they a standard connector?

If I'm able to find the connector can I just solder it on there to regain the battery functionality, or will it likely never work again?

Thanks!

Looks like they are specific. Yes, soldering a new one on should fix this.
