Alex - Do you have a universal adapter cable or external case to put the SSD into? See if it can be for formatted externally. If you can, the drives SATA cable is bad.

If it were a normal hard drive I would use the "write zeros", format option to map out any bad blocks. It might work for the SSD.

This problem has nothing to do with the drive itself but is almost always caused by a bad connector between the board and hard drive. A large proportion ,around 10%, of macbooks that come into my lab for disk replacement have a perfectly good drive but a bad cable the problem seems to be most prevalent in the 2010 macbook pro

Dani, Agreed, most of the time its the SATA cable. I'm sure Alex has since fixed his system given the age of the original posting. How about focusing on the newer ones.

bro I have a 2010 MacBook Pro with external hard drive it used to work and work flawlessly but after the wire stretched it stoped working I will try to replace the wire and check again and inform you about what happened I usually think the problem is in the connection nothing to do with the disk itself so replace the wire and bro try again

changing the cable should take care of it

Same problem …. bought two 2TB external hard drives from China ….. one seemed to work when I copied data to it. But would not take the 8.57gb I was sending [ MS-DOS [FAT] ] has a limit of 4gb. Then my MAC would simply not recognise the external drive. I tried all the recommended fixes in Disc Utility on both my rather large Macs [in my recording studio]. One is brand new iMac.

Neither of the two discs are seen by either Mac … I shall turn the problem over to my ‘man’ on Monday [now Saturday] … but, as with most folk, I won’t give in … wasting hours on this problem. Can’t find the answer!

This appears to be a Tesla specific problem that is affecting users of Tesla's Sentry mode that records video footage to the USB. Once the USB fills up it appears to corrupt the drive with no obvious solution.

try partitioning the drives in mac os format (HFS) but you may find that the drives are not really 2TB if they are noname brands

maybe you guys are trying too hard reading between the lines and the stupid drive has just bunked ittself over time. that has an odd if one was to calculate it, amongst the other possibles here: hardware main/ hardware aux, internal interface/external connector and even direct to usb!. even solid state has failed for no reason and they are supposed to be impervious to mag/shock without moving parts. go figure

I have this problem with a new USB memory stick. It was filled up to 124 GB by my Tesla Sentry mode but now I cannot erase the data to reuse the stick. Every erase option throws up the “Unable to write to the last block of the device” message.

Any clues?

You probably have a problem with the hardware of either the stick or your computer. Try formatting it on another PC and if it doesn't help its time to RTM (return to manufacturer) if it does work on the other computer (most unlikely then you have a problem with your USB port which you can ignore unless you use it often
