How can I control/clean the fan?

My laptop sometimes turn off alone, expecially when I play games and recently visiting some web pages. A friend told me that maybe is the fan and I have to control if there is some dust on it.

How can I control that?

Blow out the fan intake area with compressed air or take it apart and clean it with a small brush.
