After screen replacement, display is dim

I was replacing an iPod Touch 4G screen for a friend.

I submit that the iPod touch 4g is the worst device to work on. EVAR.

Anyways, everything was fine, got it replaced and back together. Powered up, touch worked great, but screen went to full-dim setting. It didn't go dim prior to me replacing the screen. I would ordinarily play around with the screen brightness but she has a passcode on it. Have you ever experienced this? Did I cover up the auto-dimming feature somehow? I know the backlight works fine because when first turning on, the iPod is normal, and also when powering off.

TIA.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. This is the second time I've ever replaced an iPod Touch 4th generation screen...and this was for somebody, so i was really careful. And I'm use to iphones...I'll report back and let you know if that was it.

Don't forget to update as it could help someone in the future cheers

Well for some reason the screen was back to usual brightness...so it was the auto setting.

Cheers for the update

Con is right all you have to do is go into the iPod and turn up the brightness. The iPod screen after it is unplugged usually goes into automatic brightness mode but if you are still experiencing problems check the connection of the screen even though I doubt this is the cause.

I am not a betting person but I would bet on this I have had a similar issue in a repair for a friend and that was the problem.

I wish you the best of luck.

Looks like you've got your answer, but for the sake of others reading this thread to troubleshoot...

The last device I did that had a brightness problem it ended up having a partial short on the LCD coil. At the brightness setting it would turn up and down, but it was not nearly as bright as it should be even at full brightness. Replace the coil and back to normal.

Yes, I read around about that as well. The coil or "backlight" IC. (6R8) If you need a flashlight to see the display, then this ^ is what you need to either short or replace. Replacement is much easier on this iPod touch 4g than the iphone 4...wow...it's almost impossible. The backlight IC and coil are tinier than....

if you short your backlight coil you're going to have a seriously dim screen ;)

I've been there, except on an iphone 4. Aint gonna tackle a job like that till I get the right tools. My soldering iron is like a greasy meatball, and I have no hot air gun...

Also, to update yall with what happened, the girl I repaired it for forgot her password...reset anyways lol
