your battery is worn out and wont hold a charge. replace the battery and ta-da!

Two things:
1.) A bad battery--totally possible. not all new batteries are 'new batteries'
2.) An internal short--electrons had a party all night long going through a secret pathway from one side of the battery to the other, by morning, no more charge. This is especially likely if you can detect excess heat (shorts have low resistance = extra heat)
