Repair and disassembly guides for Mixers.

Inoperative raising and lowering mechanism

There is a mechanism that is nearly impossible to access that allows the mixer to be raised and lowered; it has either broken or disconnected and the mixer is rendered useless (or nearly so). I think it's just a matter of the right tool or ability to access the inner workings.

Actually I finally figured out that the motor housing has to be removed to get to a tension screw (visible when the bowl rack is lowered fully) and screw it in from the inside (housing cap screws hidden under a metal strap that is loosened from the back; remove the top; three screws hold the motor housing to the neck/base). It's virtually impossible to get to from the bottom. The three screws holding the motor housing are not easy to get to but mercifully easy to loosen at a slight angle. Once that's off, the adjustment screw can be inserted more easily. Thanks to those who responded!

Doug,

Look at this guy's website where he takes it all apart with just a phillips head screwdriver. He has it quite far apart changing a gear, but if you look at one of the photos, you can see where there are four screws that hold the top part on. If you remove that I think you will have access to the lift handle.

Otherwise, I found another solution here.

Regards,

Frank

This looks very helpful. Thanks! I'll post if it does the trick.

That's great! Take some photos as you take it apart and maybe we can get the start of an open KitchenAid repair manual going...
