Hi!
I have searched Google high and low for answers. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the logic board in the MacBook Pro 17 inch (mid 2010) with a board coming from a early 2011 model (i7 processor at 2.2 GHz)?

It is not advisable to jump years when swapping logic boards. The newer board has completely different graphics… I would stay with the mid-'10 model if you want a faster processor.

And machead3, why do you mean the graphics?
I read everything is the same but the thunderbolt, but think the connector is the same size, it isnt?

As a matter of fact, a colleague of mine owns a Macbook Pro early 2011 17 inch. So I tried to compare the motherboard layout with mine as careful as possible. Two things I noticed are:
- at least one mounting point is different
- the battery connectors look different
Other mounting points seem to be located on the same spots in both machines. Connectors for the DVD drive, the Bluetooth module etc are the same. I still think its doable. But the question is: is it worth it?
