Earpiece speaker very quiet after replacing power and sensor cable

I followed the guide for replacing the power and sensor cable (the power button was not working), and after the repair, the earpiece speaker is very quiet. It can barely be heard from the front of the phone. However, when turning the phone on its back, the sound seems to be better.

I believe that the earpiece speaker is not positioned correctly and that the sound is bouncing off the front. Has anyone experienced this? Please let me know if you think this is likely and how to position the speaker correctly. If not, I may purchase another power and sensor cable.

Note

- The cable I purchased came with the new earpiece speaker. I did not keep the original :(

- I tried adjusting the speaker position by taking apart the phone again without any change.
