Can I replace Goof Off with Lacquer Thinner?

I plan on fixing my PS3, which has been diagnosed with YLOD(Yellow Light Of Death), but since I live in Ireland I cannot get my hands on a bottle of "Goof Off".

I was wondering if I could replace it with some lacquer thinner when I have to clean off the old thermal compound before applying the new layer.

If it isn't a suitable substitution could you please advise me as to what I should use instead of "Goof Off" or would it be best to just order a bottle of thermal material remover.
