want to replace my harddrive.

I want to replace my 750GB harddrive with a 1TB hybrid drive. how do i clone the first onto the second? I have a drive enclosure to atach the drive via USB. I have a MacBook Pro 17" Unibody.

Boot to the old drive (option key @ start). Open Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility:Partition format the new drive. From the same place choose Restore Choose the source/destination and away you go.

I looked up what the option key is and tried to boot to the old drive but it doesn't seem to work. i cannot restore to the new disk

'If you have two drives connected to your machine and only one has a valid system folder the machine will choose it on its own. So, if you can't get the machine to boot then your old drive, or external case, or cables are suspect. Go over all the connections and try again.

I had a tip to start witch command R pressed and that did the trick. Th rest of the answer was correct and i now have a restored hybrid drive. Now all I have to do is replace it.
