Very slow 802.11n airport conection and lack of range

I replaced the airport card in my A1811 MacBook with a MacBook Pro several years ago and have not had the range or especially speed tha t was expected - virtually no improvement over the orginal card. The card is supposedly Apple # MA688Z/B. Is there firmware/ software or an antenna wiring problem. Is this the same card that you are selling for the update the Core Duo?

I have susequently reversed the antenna wires at the (802.11n) airport card within the MacBook and now have satisfactory speed at 60+ feet.

Did you update the base station also? You won't see n speeds without an n base station. Ralph

maybe its not your computer but the wifi base stations you connect to?

or something upstream?

your antenna could be part od the problem too.

I have updated the base station - airport extreme to the latest software / firmware. I feel it is related to the antenna as the closer I get to the base station the faster it gets. When I am over 30 feet it is very slow. My new MacBook works very well this distance. Could I have hooked the antenna wires up backwards or do I need different antennas?

your ld antenna may not be working well with the frequencies used in 'n'

IIRC we have 2 bands of frequency used in WiFi - so your suspicion could be correct
