Help to identify burned capacitor on mainboard

Hello

Looking at my father-in-Laws MacBook Pro unibody A1278 unibody. He accidently spilled cofee onto the keyboard.

The computer seems to run just fine now 1 month later, however the backlit on the keyboard is gone and many keys on the keyboard are not working correctly.

It is a 820-2936b board.

On the mainboard a single capacitor is burned, can you help me to identify it please:

I managed to find this picture showing the capacitor in your guides, but cannot read the text:

Stokholm - That component is a SMD Capacitor not an IC.

Stokholm, that is reference designator C6603 and is a 100UF 20% 6.3V TANT capacitor. The case is a A L1 and something like this or on here should work. the capacitor is not part of your keyboard backlight, but of the Speaker Amp circuit. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.

I will get the keyboard and capacitor replaced, thanks to you it is possible to install the correct one.

Can I use a size B (3528) with the same specs instead of the size A (3216) - there is enough space on the board.

さんによる

It might be possible, but make sure that the cap will meet the solder pads on the board. If it does, you can most certainly use it. Thank you for accepting my answer and best of luck to you.

I received a new keyboard and backlight, it all work very well now. I haven't replaced the cap yet, as I am still waiting for it to be delivered. Can it be dangerous to use it with the burned cap?

Since it is already burned out your circuit already has failed, so that is no longer a danger. I would however replace it as soon as you can:-)
