Fan and soundoutput in general not working. What could be the cause?

Hello everyone!

I have recently tried to clean the fan of my macbook and as clumsy as one can be, i ripped off the fan connector from the logicboard. I was able to get it back on by soldering it. However after booting it up, the fan did not work anymore and all the sound output was gone. Neither with the audio jack nor with the speakers. No sound and no fan. So actually the macbook occasionally overheats and i have to play my music over my iphone, not really enjoyable.

What can i do?

Sounds like you have a bit more damage to the logic board here.

Did you knock off any components or damage any of the traces when you pulled the connector off? Also, in the process of soldering did you create a bridge across a few lines shorting out part of the circuitry?

At this point I think you'll need to bring your system into an independent Authorized Apple Repair center and let them take a look. Maybe they can patch up the logic board at worse you may end up needing a new Fan and/or logic board.

Hi

I agree to Dan - at least you needed a "special" soldering station with around 5 watts or close to that to make sure to not damage any parts are around the fan connector.

It is pretty easy to shorten some of the copper lines if the tip of soldering station is just to big or to rip them off by overheating.

Would you please be so kind to make a hires picture of the area around the connector? Maybe it can be seen by picture what has happened.

Regards, Stone
