Dark stripes in the bottom right corner

Hello,

I have weird dark stripes in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Please see the picture.

The don't go away, the persist from the time display lights up. I have also tried different instructions on the similar question (involving Ctrl-Option-Eject) with no positive results.

I'd be grateful for a help in diagnosing the problem and in finding the cheapest way to fix it.

Thanks in advance!

looks like your backlight is failing. What you are seeing are the backlight LEDs shining (looks like only half). This could be the backlight itself or the WLED driver on your logic board. there is really no an easy or cheap fix for this.

Sorry to say I agree with OT here the LCD assembly will need to be replaced.

oldturkey03, thanks for your answer. Is there a way to test whether the problem is in the display part (which can be fixed by replacing the whole display unit) or in the logic board (which would require replacing with the new logic board as I understand)?

Yes, a replacement should fix it. It will determine if it is your LCD (most likely) or your WLED (less likely) If you have a different display, use it to find out. you know where to find the best guides for the job, MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Best of luck to you.

But, before you anything take your system to an Apple Store and have them check it out. Maybe they have an extended warranty for this issue.

I would strongly recommended you do a good cleaning of the exterior of your system and make a full backup before you go. A system that looks well kept tends to get better handling for issues like this.

Otherwise you can get a complete lid/display unit and replace it Vs taking it apart (a lot less work).

I have another LCD screen I could try. Would it fix the problem (instead of purchasing the whole display assembly)? I don't mind more work.

Thanks for your answer!

Sure, no problem! You'll need a collection of guitar picks and a heat gun to lift off the cover glass on this model take your time as you don't want to break it. Once you get the display out check the manufactures info and verify your other display is compatible with it. I would still visit the Apple Store first you might get a surprise ;-} We had two last year with a different problem that Apple replaced just for the labor cost.
