No Backlight
I have the same issue (only difference being my friend fell on it while it was closed, no smashed screen), the last three digits of mine are W0H, greatly appreciate any info.

Yes it's a hardware issue most likely the backlight (or connection to it ) was damaged.
FWIW most replacement LCDs include the backlight. (Trying to replace just the backlight is a very advanced DIY) Replacing the entire LCD dissplay is a lot of work.. but not as finicky as try to do just the backlight.

What have you tried so far? Does an external monitor show a proper image?

Yeah that looks right. I have tried turning up the brightness, zap PRAM procedure, resetting the energy saving settings to try and trick it back into working and I have tried removing the battery, holding the power button then powering up. None have worked nor made it even flash.
It is still operational, screen still showing (very faintly) just no light. The external monitor is showing the image fine.
Is this more of a hardware issue?
