iFixit optical drive replacement cable compatible with 6Gb/s?

Product code: IF161-040-1

Apple Part #: 922-9032

I had a 3Gb/s disk on this bay. The disk became defective, having developed several bad blocks, and I bought a Seagate SSHD 1TB disk, which is a 6Gb/s part. The bad blocks are genuine, I tested the disk on external enclosures and it's really defective.

Now I am having I/O errors on my secondary disk, which is 6Gb/s. I was not having them previously, so I think the cable either is defective, or the MacBook Pro either has some software or hardware problem.

The software reports a 6Gb/s connection and a 6Gb/s negotiated link speed. Maybe there is something amiss on the software though, the I/O errors develops randomly while using the computer, and it loses the disk until next reboot.

On the hardware side, it could be:

1) a damaged connector (best case), replacing it would fix the problem IF the part is 6Gb/s compliant.

2) a hardware design issue (very bad, unsolvable) where the Mac is unable to supply enough energy to the disk, or has some signaling problem with 6Gb/s at the second bay, even if it initially negotiates the correct link speed.

3) a hardware defect (very bad) which needs logic board replacement.

I am looking for insight if 1) is a viable option: is the iFixit part compliant with 6Gb/s link speed?

I don't want to spend in a part which will not solve my problem.

I vote for choice #2 - I don't think that the throughput/bus speed of the optical bay is equal to that of the HD.

As I stated, the System Information app reports this bus as a 6Gb/s, and when paired with a 6Gb/s disk it successfully negotiates the maximum link speed. So, at least on the chipset level your conjecture is not correct. It may be the case that a hardware defect or design problem is preventing it from operating correctly though...
