Water Damaged, cleaned then worked for 20 seconds?!?

Hey i bought an iphone off a guy who water damaged it, he dried it out used it for about 2 weeks then the backlight went.

I took it apart cleaned everything with alcohol and a brush (there were signs of corrosion on mainboard and screen connectors)

Put it back together and it worked!!!! for about 20 seconds then the backlight went again :( not happy. What does this mean should i try cleaning again and leave it longer or is a part on the mainboad gone?!?

find it strange that it worked again after cleaening

Help would be great!

Joe, the first thing I would do is to stop trying:-) It is possible that you are going to short circuit the backlight further. Continue to clean the board multiple times with high grade isopropyl alcohol. Of course make sure that you remove the EMI shields and let the board soak, then clean with a soft brush. Do not forget to clean inside the connectors. It is possible that either your backlight coil or backlight IC overheat and then shut down. Since it does work at times, it is unlikely that it is your backlight (located in the LCD) so I would concentrate on the logic board. Also, I do suggest to change the battery after any immersion, to avoid issue later on. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thank-you for your answer yes ive been repeatedly cleaning the logic board but have been removing the emei shields how do i do this is there a guide? thanks again
