I recently purchased a real lemon 1st gen Ipod Touch 16 GB, off ebay due to some tricky fine print. Instead of just eating the purchase I decided to attempt some trouble shooting and repair. The first thing that I was going to attempt to fix was changing the battery as the unit would not charge properly, however a black wire about 3" in length with soder on one side and some kind of angled connection on the other fell out of the I pod. I am inserting a image below. Any help would be greatly appreciated I am new to working on these small scale electronics.

Sorry about the quality on the second picture I can take a better one if needed.

Thanks

That part did not come with the iPod to begin with. Must have been added later on maybe as a wifi strengthener or something. Looks like the glass has been replaced before too

Thanks for the insight. Yeah looking at the opened up Ipod Pics I did not see anything that resembled this cord. Anyways I am gonna install the new battery in and see what happens.

Thanks for the help.

First of all, try everything on your ipod. Camera working? Can it charge? It may be what charges your iPod, so do not touch it and if everything seems fine, leave it somewhere safe, no where near anything flammable!

The Ipod would barely start up and would not charge which led me to want to change the battery. I am good as far as what needs to be done to install a new battery as there is a very good in depth guide on how to do so on ifixit, My concern first and foremost is to what the little black cord that fell out is as I have not seen it in any of the pictures of the Ipod being disassembled on this website.
