Is it just a waste to buy 8GB, would it work. I have a unibody mid-2010 Macbook

Hi, It all depends on which MacBook you actually have. I am including a link to a source for the max memory for all Apple computers since the G3. Look up the machine you have for the correct amount. Be advised that Apple's max can frequently be exceeded. Good luck.
