Is the screen toast (shorted)?

I've changed the battery and the head phone audio jack flex cable. In the process, I also broke the FPC connector for cable number 3. I've ordered a replacement and my younger brother is good with soldering surface mounted components so I got that covered.

I think! Because it was tough to get the phone working at all.

Most of the time I didn't feel the vibrator when I turned the Vibrator/Silence switch back and forth or the screen wouldn't light up (when the vibrator DID vibrate - meaning the phone was on, but no light to/in the screen!).

So taking it apart again, checking and reattaching the three cables that come from the screen. Assemble it and try again. Did that a couple of times (not closing the 'lid' completely) and eventually I got the Apple boot logo! Success! So I closed the 'lid' completely and then half the screen became 'green stripy' and the other half white!

After a few seconds, the whole screen went white! Couldn't turn it of so I quickly disassembled the phone again and then noticed the broken FPC connector.

Now, my question is: Is the screen toast now? Did I short it with the broken FPC connector?

Which flex cable is what?

Ok, my brother have finaly replaced the connector (with a lot of whining :) and everything seem to work just fine.

Exept I still can't turn the darn thing off! i've replaced the battery and the button harness and it's still acting up!

What on the motherboard can make it refuse to turn off!? I can't think of anything!

Success!!

I completely took it apart again. Removed the display assembly (but not separating this), mother board and sync connector. Cleaning everything by blowing clean, compressed air (from a aerosol can) in every nook and cranny and trying to get air in between the mother board and the RF sheilding from all directions, blowing everywhere on the back case and on and around the buttons (that where still in the case) and on all connectors (both on the mother board and on the flex cables). Then assembled everything again, making 100% sure that all the connectors where correctly seated.

Turn it back on and loo and behold! Everything works like a charm!! I can turn it on and off, I can enter DFU mode and it doesn't reboot as soon as I unplug the sync cable!! Dang, I'm a happy camper now!! :D

PS. Just in case this haden't worked, my next attemt would have been to spray/use some 'electronic cleaning solvent'.

Since you were able to figure it out can you please post the solution as an Answer so people can see it worked, and so this can be removed from the Unresolved and No Answers section? Thank you.
