What are the best ways to troubleshoot the home button?

My mom took her 4s to get the dock connector repaired at a local shop. The dock connector works fine, but now the home button is no longer functional.

Yes, I have already tried to software resolution steps with no success. I don't think it's a hardware issue, since the button worked fine previously.

What would be the best way to confirm this? Are there specific "best pratices" for cleaning the home button to insure proper functionality? I've also heard something about a ribbon cable being related to home button issues, but I'm not sure.

Hello!

I am an iPhone tech at a local shop here and I've replace quite a few dock connectors. SO....

The home button does in fact have a small flex cable attached to the backside of the button that makes contact when "clicked". The flex cable connector plugs into the dock connector on the inside. I've seen people mess these up before as the cable is kind of small and fragile. Its not horribly difficult to get to. I would take it back to where you had the dock replaced and have them repair it for free. It would deffinately be something they did wrong if they put a dock in it.

Basically you take the back cover off, Unplug the dock connector flex cable. Take out two screws holding the speaker bar in place, Remove the speaker bar and antenna connector attached to it and BAM. Right there is the dock connector and the flex cable connector that feeds from the front into the back side to connect to the dock.

Hope this helps!
