Replacement Keyboard only works on boot up?

Hello, I'm hoping someone could help me my macbook pro had a cup of coffe spilt on it the keyboard and track pad broke so i replaced the keyboard myself to find that it only works on boot up to do commands such as SMC reste and PRam but after the machine has booted up the keyboard is unresponsive completely its like its not even there but the strange thing is the power button still works and functions as it should even though the keyboard and power button share the same ribbon cable is this a simple thing to fix or is it an odd one?

Sounds very odd - Have you tried checking the keyboard info between the two keyboards using System Profiler look under Hardware >USB >Keyboard Hub any differences?

I don't have a 17" in-house right now to give you what it should have. Maybe someone else can take a look and tell us what it has.

USB keyboards work perfectly fine not an issue at all, I've also tested the keyboard select disk mode before boot up and I can type and use it there but as soon as you go into the OS it stops. I've tried reinstalling the OS numerious times but can't get it working. The OS recognises the keyboard is there in the keyboards tab in system preferences so it knows it's there. Thanks for your help

Yes, I understand an external USB keyboard is working here. The Q was what was the internal keyboards info under the USB tab (you should see two keyboards the internal & the external) Apple has a few different versions so I was wondering if you have one that your EFI firmware could not support.

OK - Lets take a different tack. Make sure to apply the latest EFI & SMC firmware you system can support. Here's a link to Apple's TN on what you'll need EFI & SMC firmware updates

Then we need to go back and check the version of key board you have now and what you had.
