clean retina MacBook Pro keys after liquid damage

I recently purchased a new macbook pro with retina display, unfortunately while listening to music on it while drinking a gin and tonic i spilled some of my drink on the keyboard. OH NO! i thought, and quickly removed the excess water and powered the computer off, leaving it tilted downward overnight to avoid the liquid penetrating into the vital components of the computer. This was about 3 weeks ago and the computer is working completely functional. However the left shift key and space bar nolonger have the same "crispness" as the rest of the keyboard, im assuming there is someway to remove these keys to clean the assembly and key itself. iv tried watching several videos on youtube but none of them directly relate to the retina macbook, PLEASE HELP!

ALSO Is it possible that taking it to the apple store that they might perform this for me ? or are they going to tell me immediately that the computer is liquid damaged and needs the entire keyboard/mouse assembly replaced? Opinions?

You're right ''Apple does not cover liquid damage'', so as soon as you describe the problem you'll have to pay for whatever they do. If you don't tell them when they examine the machine they'll know it's liquid damage.

So. in a way. this could be a good thing. You'll (or someone you pay) will have to replace the keyboard / top case, which means the machine will have to be opened and can be inspected for residue that is likely to cause corrosion and failure if not cleaned.

thank you so much, i am going to take it in this week to see what they can do, if its more than 5 or 600 im just going to have to deal with it, and if it poops out on me, buy a new one. Sad to say but next time i buy a mac its coming from bestbuy the physical damage coverage is worth its peace of mind

AFAIK bestbuy will not cover liquid damage either... Get the estimate from Apple - if it's over $400.00 see if they'll do a depot repair, it's the best price you'll ever find. Swapping a top case is not that difficult of a DIY - you might be able to locate a good top case and swap that yourself.

Hi, not sure if you've already sent it in to be fixed, but the individual keys are removable! I spilt coffee on my keyboard and the keys displayed the same stickiness feeling after it the coffee dried. I was able to remove all of the keys in the bottom row and clean them and now they feel like they did before. But just curious, if you did send it in to be repaired, how much did you pay?
