I bought a used 27 inch Thunderbolt Display 4 months ago, in good condition to connect it to my 2020 mac mini m1 with Monterey 12.4 installed.
For the past week the monitor has been starting to switch on and off intermittently, often but not always when this happens the cable is very hot and sometimes the bottom of the screen too (without connecting anything to the hub this doesn't seem to overheat).
When the problem first appeared I tried upgrading the mac to 12.4 (from 12.3) thinking it was that, although it seems to have only gotten worse since then.
I'm not sure it's the Thunderbolt Display cable's fault that's causing these problems as I've tried using it on a 2011 macbook pro without then using the adapter and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems.
At this point it could be the adapter, like the cable or something else like a faulty component or firmware issue.
Does anyone have any ideas to solve the problem or at least identify the cause?
