Before replacing the slot, you could try a trick to clean the card reader pins first.

* get some isopropyl alcohol and thoroughly soak the contact points of any cartridge with a Q-tip.
* put the cartridge in the slot and insert/eject the cartridge repeatedly for about 3 minutes.
* try it again and see if that fixed it.
