I don't recommend pushing your system beyond the OS the system was designed to support. Review [https://everymac.com/systems/apple/index-apple-specs-applespec.html|EveryMac] for the systems limits.

While you can push some systems to Mojave or Catania using DosDude patchers. Your system needs at least 8 GB or more to be useful. Fun to play with but not very good for anything serious.

As far as the file systems APFS has issues on SATA based drives, which is why I don’t recommended it on older systems. Stick with Sierra as the highest macOS if the system can support it using HFS+.

Be aware Apple messed up the certificates on the last three OS’s. Jump to Step 4 for the direct links. Anything older will need to back date the systems date setting to a date thats within the OS’s release window.
