Try shining a torch at an angle close to the LCD display screen and see if you can detect any display on the screen when the unit is on. It will be very faint so trying it in a darkened room may help. If you can detect an image then you have a backlight problem with the LCD display.
 
You need to check whether the backlight power supply is actually appearing at the LCD display terminal or not. If it is then unless it is a faulty connection to the display panel itself, (it may be by flex cable or hard wired I don't know), you have a faulty display module backlight and the LCD display module will need to be replaced.
 
There is a microprocessor on the display pcb that controls the backlight function as well as numerous other functions which you say appear to be working OK.
 
''Be very careful when trying to test for the voltage'' as you don't want to slip when using the DMM (Digital MultiMeter) and causing more problems than what you had before you started, especially as the power will be connected.
