I don't know your laptop, but looking at the DC-In jack power plug cable it appears that it only there to connect the charger to the motherboard, so you should be able to start the laptop on the battery.

If your battery is low do not try to charge it out of the laptop as doing it this way will bypass the battery management circuitry (and protections). Wait until the new DC-In jack spare part arrives and is installed before charging the battery. Also do not run the battery flat in the meantime.
I don't know your laptop, but looking at the DC-In jack power plug cable it appears that it only connects the charger to the motherboard, so you should be able to start the laptop on the battery.
