Hi claire! I believe you problem doesn't have anything to do with anything being to tight. That said I am 80% certain of that. The issue your having has something to do with the digitizer but if your able to fix the problem with a piece of electrical tape then I wouldn't take the whole DS apart but If the tape doesn't work then if I were you I would actually do a full teardown to get to the motherboard and actually see if there is corrosion and if there is corrosion clean it with a tooth brush and isopropyl alcohol 90% and up. No if there is no corrosion then I would replace the digitizer and see if that solves your issue.
