My 3rd gen. iPod 10 GB with the 4 buttons above with touch wheel won't start up at all. I've tried to hit the play button then the center wheel button alternately but it just won't turn on. (The Hold switch is not on.)

Can anyone help? I miss my music!

With so many USB car chargers available that make it easy to carry USB-charge-able devices, carrying a 3rd-gen iPod that solely charges via Firewire is truly a pain in the neck.

I have 2 car charge ports in our vehicle, one is usually occupied by the GPS, the other one rotates between when my wife wants to charge her iPhone with the 2-port USB charger, and when I want to charge the iPod 3rd-gen with the Firewire charger. Even though the iPod 3rd-gen charges solely through Firewire, it would be much more convenient if both devices could both share the USB charger with 2 ports.

I found a hack on the Instructables site that someone posted to modify a USB charger to charge a 3rd-gen iPad Nano, (http://www.instructables.com/id/Modify-a...), though I suspect it would work the same way for a regular 3rd-gen iPod. This however, doesn't completely solve my question, it only keeps a dedicated charger for the iPod and doesn't make it flexible enough to use a "regular" USB car charger that might have 2 ports.

Everyone I've spoken to doesn't have any suggestions since it requires a Firewire charge, so they suggest ditching a perfectly good working 40GB iPod for something newer. I refuse to give up a functioning device I paid close to $400 many years ago. What can I do to make this device work with a USB charger ?

the device connected to the imac had received the update with itunes then it said to unplug the device from the imac and put it on the charger but it has been plugged in for a long time and waited in the dock but nothing has changed...

how can i fix it

Stuck on a iPod Classic 7th Gen with iFlash Quad build. Would appreciate any help.

Setup:

- iPod Classic 7th Gen

- iFlash Quad

- 256GB + 512GB Samsung EVO Select MicroSD cards (both on confirmed compatibility list)

- New 3600mah battery

Background:

PC crashed and soft locked during first restore attempt. Powered down computer, disconnected the iPod and rebooted. After that the iPod wouldn't boot — stuck asking to restore. I have manual and auto tested the iPod through diagnostic mode. All internals and hardware are recognised by the system and functional.

What I've tried:

- Reseated SD cards - ipod identifies all 768GB, both cards detected.

- Completed iFlash SDXC prep guide, cards formatted to FAT32.

- Tried restoring on Windows with iTunes 12.13 and 12.8 — restore completes fully, success message shows, iPod reboots to Apple logo then immediately drops back into recovery mode. Loops every time.

- Tried restoring on Mac via Finder — restore froze completely for 5+ hours with zero progress.

Any ideas what's causing the restore loop or the Mac freeze. I suspect it is software issue rather than hardware, but otherwise am lost.

The message says..

"The ipod could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible".

I tried restarting the computer and changing out cables but it still won't work.

Is there any other way to fix this or get my songs loaded onto my ipod for free?

Already cleaned dock, tested multiple cables, did the 5 Rs, tested 3 different laptops (mac, linux, windows 11).

Ipod will fully charge via USB and wall but won't get detected as USB device.

I don't know what could be the problem.

I'm guessing logic board or something on the 30 pin but would be weird if only the data pin is faulty while charge seems to work fine.

One thing that's interesting though. In diagnostics mode in the accessory test, it only shows FWRPWR and not USBPWR or USB_Detect that seems to appear on other devices.

I have tried to reseat the battery cable more then 4 times with the same result each time.

I have had the ipod charging all day, so over 8 hours.

If I order slim ssd and slim cover, is it fit for my 5.5th ipod???

Ipod Fans and Old Tech Resurrectionist,

It took apart an iPod 5th Gen A1136 but during the process I lost track of the fine mesh ground horribly pictured with this question. The ground mesh is the same type that is adhered to the top of the charge port at the bottom of the logic board.

Not sure why there is a second ground (not counting the click wheel ground) when the faceplate is plastic on this model but this is probably why I am not an engineer. I would like to return this very small part to it’s original home in the case without buying another unopened iPod to study.

Any assistance where this second ground mesh is placed is greatly appreciated. I am finding nothing on the internet about these spongy fine wire mesh grounding strap? Thingy?
