iPod 5th Generation (Video): Very Low Battery, disk mode doesn't work

I recently took the front and back covers off my ipod to paint it. It was fully functional before this. Now, I get the very low battery screen. Holding select and play does absolutely nothing, and holding select and menu temporarily closes the screen. It is not being recognized by my computer, and the battery held a lot of charge a few days ago. Any other recommendations?

iPod Classic: How to reformat to use with Windows not iTunes please

Hi

My son just gave me his old 6th gen 120GB iPod classic. I don't have a Mac, nor do I use ITunes, but I have a boatload of music on my PC in a variety of formats: MP3 FLAC, WMA etc. that I would like to upload to this ipod and manage it from my PC.

Can I do this please? I would assume I need to reformat the drive as it's an actual hard drive, but would I need to use NTFS or FAT please? Unfortunately, knowing those acronyms is the extent of my computer knowledge - not even sure how I know those, lol.

I understand from Mac users that ITunes is all-invasive, and tries to overwrite - oops, I mean Sync - every time you plug it in. I would assume I would not have that problem with a PC?

What sort of software could I use to upload the music please?

Any tips on this greatly appreciated

Thanks very much

Phil

iPod 5th Generation (Video): Upgrade a 30gig Video(5G) with a 120gig iPod Classic harddrive

A few days ago a roommate gave me his 120gig iPod classic with a cracked LCD.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit

G4 PowerMac with 10.4.11

G4 iBook with 10.5.8

All with itunes v9.2 up to v9.2.061 in Win

I formated The 120gig Classic in itunes before I removed the hard-drive a Toshiba(MK1231GAL) with no problems. I installed the hard-drive in a 30gig iPod Video (5G) v1.3 Model #A1136

Serial #4U5495X3TXK (Model #MA146LL in the about section) With the 120gig Rubber bumpers. Fit inside just fine

And is just doesn't seem to be working. In iPod Diagnostics it shows the drive just fine.

(In Windows)I can't open itunes before i plug it in via USB. Under normal mode I keep getting iPod needs to be restored but when it try's to restore the iPod is busy. Under Disk mode its Corrupted and cannot restore and locks up itunes.

When I tried again today in Disk Mode windows see's the iPod as a removable disk that isn't accessible.

(In OSX) Normal mode I get cannot be restored because the iPod is Busy. More Information leads to Error 1405. In Disk Mode the iPod is busy. Disk Utility in I get a Input/Output error. No option for First Aid either

I tried restoring using a different Firmware File in windows and OSX. But know luck.

I know this is looking like a bad harddrive. But not 2 days before I removed it it restored just fine in the orig 120gig case.

So I was curious if the 5G video was the main problem. As in a motherboard incompatibility of some sort.

The orig 30gig is going back in the 5G tonight and maybe the 120gig too.

To all the guys involved with the Site, Guides, and Answers.

Many Thanks

You all saved me a lot of headache during G3/G4 iBook, MacBook, and iPod teardowns.

Update

Well reinstalled the 30gig in the 5G and it's working just fine. The 6th Gen 120gig is another matter. Its doing alot of the same things, itunes will see it, restore it, copy songs for a few minutes and lock up. So I'm just gonna do some more research and hopefully I can get some use out of it.

iPod 5th Generation (Video): iPod does not connect to iTunes

My wife found her old iPod and wants me to fix it. It plays the music that is on it, it takes a charge through a wall outlet or when connected to a computer but will not connect to iTunes. It even plays on a speaker dock. I tried several USB cables so that is not the problem. I connected it to two Macs, an iMac and a MacBook, but does not show up on either one. It does not show up in Disk Utility. I reset the iPod several times.
