iPhone 12: Top of screen not working

Hey everyone,

iPhone 12: Screen dead after dropped - screen flickers when a call comes in.

Greetings,

The phone was dropped and now the screen is non-responsive. It has been hard reset to see if that would get it back. I'm not for sure if the right steps were done for a hard reset, as I don't have the phone. If it did work, the screen isn't working.

I've looked at ordering a kit to repair, but see three options that I don't see quite an explaination of.

In-Cell LCD

Hard OLED

Soft OLED

Even though I could fix this phone myself, I'll have to determine if the price difference on Swappa.com verses having this one fixed is worth it.

Any input on the different options would be appreciated and any pros/cons on fixing verses buy a used one off Swappa.com

iPhone 12: iPhone 12 Board Shield Screw/Standoff Mix-Up

Hi everyone,

I’m almost finished successfully replacing the housing on my iPhone 12, but I’ve run into an issue with the screws and standoffs near the upper left corner of the logic board (where the shield plate secures).

Here’s the photo of the screws/standoffs I’m working with:

The standoff on the top left in the photo matches the screw on the bottom left, but that standoff doesn’t actually fit into the phone.

The standoff on the top right in the photo fits perfectly inside the phone, but the screw on the bottom right is the only one that threads into it — and as you can see, the head is way too tiny to properly hold down the shield plate.

So I’m stuck with either a standoff/screw pair that doesn’t physically fit the phone, or one that fits the phone but uses a screw that’s clearly wrong for the job.

Could anyone clarify which exact standoff/screw combination is correct for this spot, or point me to a diagram/photo showing how this area should look when properly assembled? I’m using a separate aftermarket screw set, but it may be missing the exact screw or standoff I need. I got the phone with those screws already lost, so I’m just trying to put it all back together as it’s supposed to be.

Thanks so much — this is one of the last steps holding me back from finishing the repair!

iPhone 12: iPhone 12; cellular gave hardware error, but now working again?

Hello,

So about a week ago the cellular stopped working on my iPhone. There wasn't even an IMEI output when dialing *#06#. I did the Apple Support check and it said there was a hardware issue. After some googling it seemed like a basebrand issue and I checked some local repair shops who quoted me on the repair.

I tried reseting the phone a few times and then also tried the DFU restore but nothing helped.

I erased the phone and put it up for sale noting the defective cellular service.

THEN, yesterday after ordering an Android phone as a replacement I dug the iphone out of the closet and restored my last backup from my Mac since I wanted to use the Switch to Android app to move my apps and such.

The cellular is working again...

I have used it since yesterday and it is still working. I can also get the imei again using *#06#

Does this mean it was a software issue? If it really was a hardware can leaving it sit really fix it?

I want to keep using it but I also don't want to be stuck without cellular while out on a trip or something.

Thank you for any advice or maybe stories of this happening to somebody else.

iPhone 12: New Battery Detected but Restart & Finish Repair is failing

Parts & Service keeps showing "A new battery was detected" and offers the "Restart and Finish Repair". I tried this several times and each time it would appear to complete successfully but would reappear after a reboot. I finally did a DFU restore (iOS 18.5) to the phone and now the "Restart and Finish Repair" just results in a spinning wheel for about 5 minutes then a return to the blue text "Restart and Finish Repair". This phone has a new aftermarket screen and I was told the battery that is in it was replaced by an Apple store shortly before I bought the phone (it is a genuine Apple battery and shows 100% health - with a warning about unable to determine etc.). Has anyone seen this before and what can I do to correct it? Or, will the phone be usable by someone if they just ignore that? I would like to sell the phone.

iPhone 12: New charging flex still restarts every 3 mins

When I was on holiday my iPhone got wet which let to the phone screen being blank when the phone was still making sounds. When I got home I replaced the screen and battery which fixed that problem but then it started restarting every 3 minutes.

The crash log said Prs0 /nservice backboardd, so I really this was linked to the charging flex cable. I replaced the cable only to find the issue still being present. I decided to purchase an entire new casing with an authentic charge flex cable, battery etc all I need to do was place my motherboard and screen. So I've just done that but still the phone restarts every 3 mins and the same error log. I have come to the conclusion that there must be water damage on the motherboard? If this is the case is there any way I can fix it like cleaning with a cotton bud and alcohol?
