Steam Deck: Steam Deck volume increasing on its own

My LED Steam Deck recently started to increase volume on its own. Even when I turn it down, it goes back up to max right away. Rebooting the system seems to fix the issue for a while, but sooner or later the volume starts increasing again. One time, while rebooting the system, the Steam Deck entered the BIOS, which makes me suspect that the issue might be hardware (audio board) rather than software. Can anyone provide any guidance on this issue?

Also, if the issue is the audio board, does anyone know if iFixit is planning to start selling the audio board for LED Steam Decks (F7A) again? At the moment, the only available Steam Deck audio board is the F7B which is not compatible with LED Steam Decks.

Thank you!

Steam Deck: BSOD - Tried everything I can think of

Hey everyone, really struggling with a BSOD issue on my LCD Steam Deck. I turned it on the other day and it was just a black screen and the fan spins really loud. I can feel the adaptive feedback on the touchpads too.

I've done so much searching, tried every possible button combination that's recommended, tried the battery drain method, tried unplugging everything except just the screen to no avail.

The power LED only comes on while charging and confirming no output to an external monitor. It seems bricked

Suspecting a cooked BIOS, I did a hardware BIOS flash using a CH341A programmer. I used this link as a guide

https://youtu.be/IE5ziAT6Mn0?si=qs9Dx88u...

Did it two times but still doing the same thing. I thought it might be an APU issue, not sure how to test but I took the heat sink off and confirmed it got warm (before turning it off before it got hot) so there should be power going to it

Not sure how to test the RAM..

My motherboard is the F7AA version, I have a suspicion that using the link above to flash is for the older F7A variant. I haven't been able to find a specific BIOS for F7AA motherboard

I'm honestly at my wit's end with this. Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated!

Steam Game Console: Steam Deck not booting. Chimes, LED lights up, no fan, no display

All the information is basically in the title.

My non-OLED Steam Deck wont boot anymore. It seems to charge normally. Connecting it to the original power supply will turn the light on.

It was shut down using the steam UI one day and wouldn´t boot up the next.

Pressing the power button makes it give the power on chime, but that's it.

No fan spin, no internal or external display.

Rebooting into BIOS doesn´t work.

Hard reboot (long press of power button for 5 / 10 / 15 s) wont work.

Enabling battery safe ("*" + "...") works, I see the 3 LED blinks, but it doesn´t solve my problem.

Neither does booting without SD, SSD or battery connected.

Regardless of what I´m doing, pressing the power button will immediately create the chime, even if I do it every second. So it looks like it´s not even getting passed some initial power on test.

The deck was in my van over night, it might have hit 5 or 6°C, but not colder than that. It wasn´t dropped, hasn´t seen liquids or anything. Shutdown, put in case, removed from case, dead... :(

Steam Support says they have no idea and it seems to not be something they would offer complimentary repair for. Asked me to send it in for a 200€+Tax repair attempt with no guarantee.

So, any ideas would me most appreciated :)

Steam Deck OLED: There's a 1/4" White Line across the bottom of Newly-Replaced Screen

I recently replaced a cracked screen in my steam deck OLED (512 GB) and a white bar appears across the new screen when I boot it up. Everything else looks alright, if not a bit low-resolution. The white strip blocks out UI and gameplay that expect that part of the screen to be working. It does scale in brightness along with the rest of the display, and occasionally red and yellow horizontal strips appear inside that white strip

I have uninstalled, then reinstalled this screen three times trying to see if it was the connector and making sure the pins matched the instructional photo. This is the result each time. I would put my old screen back in to test, but it has been shattered and will not display anything. I am wondering if this may be a compatibility issue or if perhaps I received a defective screen replacement. Here some images of the display model#s in case that helps.

Steam Deck OLED: Broken/glitchy input controls after spillage damage cleanup

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help with this. A few weeks ago I was travelling with my Steam Deck OLED. Unfortunately, I had a bottle of Irn-Bru (soda type is relevant I believe due to it's orange colour) that wasn't sealed properly, and my bag was drenched with the Deck inside. I had an aftermarket case so it got completely flooded.

As I was travelling, I didnt't have access to tools, I was able to turn off the deck and had it drying for over a week turned off before I got home (the battery wasn't disconnected as I couldn't get access but it was powered down).

I got home and started to take it apart (thank you so much for the teardown guides, they were invaluable!). There were a few orange red splash points and I was aware of the triggers and buttons sticking. So I took it completely apart and used a combination of cotton buds, Deionised water, and isopropyl alcohol. some of the parts, particularly the side connection boards for the trackpads and thumbsticks were covered. But I persevered and cleaned everything up, some of the parts were really bad so I used a wash station to remove as much of the orange residue as possible.

I allowed everything to dry that evening (that was after washing off the water with alcohol) and reassembled the Deck (Again, I cannot stress how useful the guides were for this. I left the back off to allow things to evaporate.

The next day, I powered it up, and it posts, goes into the bios screen, but I can select Continue and it'll boot into SteamOS. Screen works great, touch and display, speakers are fine, and it can connect to wifi.

But the buttons and triggers are a mixed bag, they don't map correctly and when I press B for example, the haptics in the right trackpad triggers. So I can only assume things are shorting unexpectedly.

I've left it off for now to dry further, but I'm wondering if there was any kind of contact grease in the deck for the connectors. I looked at some options and saw the one iFixit sells is a reddish orange liquid... which I think I've been studiously removing from the entire machine.

Would anyone happen to know if this is the case, and if it isn't, would something like the DeoxIT® Contact Cleaner 25ml Needle Dispenser available on the iFixit store be a good idea to help with the low voltage shorting I'm seeing?

Steam Deck OLED: Identifying internal display ZIF Connector

Greetings,

I have a Steam Deck OLED which has a damaged surface-mount connector that connects the internal display to the device. I have no idea where to find this part, and Steam Support refused to give me the name of it. I heard from someone else that a repair tech was able to use a connector from a Surface Pro as an equivalent, but it's hard to find info on that too.

Otherwise, I'm guessing I'll have to find an equivalent based on the length, width, height, no. of pins, pitch, etc. on Mouser or something but I'm not sure what this double-decker style of pins is called that is on this flex cable (I usually work with very old electronics so I haven't seen this before), so if anyone knows what the official name for that is it'll give me one more parameter to source a replacement.

Thanks in advance.

An image of the connector can be found through the following link on Ifixit's guide to replacing the OLED screen: https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/...

Steam Deck OLED: The X button sometimes doesn't recognise when you press it.

Hello,

I've been having an issue with my Steam Deck OLED. I bought it a month ago and it has been working well, but recently I started noticing that the X button is a bit wonky - it doesn't register my press unless I press in the exact center from the top and/or press it harder. The button isn't stuck, it isn't sticky either, it works normally just like the rest of the buttons, but unless I press it harder and from the very top, it doesn't work. I tried to open the deck to see whether there is some dirt inside or if the rubber membrane is worn out, but everything seemed completely fine and clean. I have the latest version too and have regular updates but quite frankly, this doesn't seem like an software issue to me. I feel like I've tried everything I could to find a cause of this, but to no avail. There also isn't enough fix solution for this exact problem either, it's mainly fixes for stuck/sticky buttons. but I just need to press button in a very specific way for it to work. Can you possibly give me an advice on what I can do about this problem?

One more thing I would like to add, I don't know if this is of any relevance to my problem but one never knows - when I opened my Deck, I noticed that the button connection points on the plate (for ABXY) look slightly different than what I saw on IFixIt ( Steam Deck OLED Right Bumper Button Assembly ). The small "cartwheels" on the plate have dark orange color filled in between the golden lines, but on my Deck the orange filler color is black instead. There is an obvious visual difference, and I was wondering if this indicates anything? Once again, i don't know if this is related to the issue but I still thought it's worth of mentioning this visual difference to you. I don't know if me replacing my current connection plate with the ordered one from site would fix the problem.

Steam Deck: Steam Deck Cpu/Gpu Throttle to 400mhz after upgrading SSD.

I recently upgraded the internal nvme to a corsair mp600 mini, which was installed correctly. After reimaging the Deck and installing all upgrades, downloaded my games, and it seems that the cpu is throttling to 400mhz and does not go beyond 15 fps in verified games. The nvme works well with all downloads and speeds and is able to be recognized by the system. The temperatures never get beyond 50-60 degrees, and I also tried going into battery storage mode which did not solve the issue. Nothing appears to have been damaged during installation. Is this a software issue and how can it be fixed?
