After the USBC Port replacement my Steam Deck still did not charge. I double checked each line from the port to be sure everything is good there now. It had troubles recognizing one of two usb orientations and failed to make the PD handshake. After I checked everything and removed this IC, as I suspected it to be faulty everything startet up again.

Now I can not identify this IC to replace it. It has most likely a marking on it „3m“ and above there is something like an 8. Here are some Photos of the IC that I made. I think it’s size is something about 0,8-0,9mm.

One of the four pads is connected to ground. I think after the Port damage this IC was burnt and shorted to ground, so that’s why it started working now again.

Does anyone know for sure what the replacement part for this is? Thanks!

So, my steam deck OLED has problem with the screen. when it is on the home menu and I press the backplate of my deck, it shows some stripes and flicker. and when I play some demanding games, sometimes it can stand for an hour, and sometimes it can't even stand for 5 mins. And after the screen goes black, I still can hear the sound of my game e.g. the steps when I walk around / the sound of pause menu and I still can shut down my deck using my feeling while the screen goes black.

When I connect my steam deck to the dock, I have 0 problem. tried to benchmark my deck for hours with hitman WOA benchmark and play some games after that, it works with 0 problem.

But I notice something, when the screen acts up, and I docked my deck, it shows no signal. I had to restart my deck while it is docked so my monitor can get the signal.

What I already do:

Teardown my deck, change the thermal paste, clean the ribbon cable of the screen, clean the connector of the screen on the motherboard.

So, what do you think is wrong with my deck? I asked around, some people said it is the display and some people said it is the CPU/GPU. I had no problem with replacing the screen by myself. but the OLED screen is not cheap, so I just worried if it is not the screen that has a problem.

What makes me worried if it is the CPU/GPU is when my screen is normal, I can dock my deck normally. but when the screen is act up and I docked it, my monitor shows no signal

I have a Steam Deck OLED which has a damaged surface-mount connector that connects the internal display to the device. I have no idea where to find this part, and Steam Support refused to give me the name of it. I heard from someone else that a repair tech was able to use a connector from a Surface Pro as an equivalent, but it's hard to find info on that too.

Otherwise, I'm guessing I'll have to find an equivalent based on the length, width, height, no. of pins, pitch, etc. on Mouser or something but I'm not sure what this double-decker style of pins is called that is on this flex cable (I usually work with very old electronics so I haven't seen this before), so if anyone knows what the official name for that is it'll give me one more parameter to source a replacement.

I can’t pinpoint the cause because it’s very unpredictable. Sometimes, I can use the trackpad normally, and the next second, it suddenly stops working.

I’ve already tried factory resetting the device, but the problem persists. I’ve also tried updating to the beta version, but that didn’t help either.

Interestingly, the trackpad always worked when I was in BIOS mode, so I’m assuming it’s a software issue.

My Steam Deck was submerged in water... I left it alone for 8 months assuming it was completely dead and one day decided to try and boot it up. To my surprise it worked!

Everything works great except it needs to stay plugged in. The second I unplug it the screen goes blank.

I've spoke with steam support whom has asked me to key some information into a cmd prompt in the desktop mode and it shows the battery health is 98% and it is discharging... It also shows the battery as "charging" in the game mode but obviously the battery does not charge.

Just wondering if I am wasting money with a battery replacement or if there would be another issue...

I've checked the audio in-game, on Steam (Gaming mode), and on Desktop mode. The issue is universal. Bluetooth and 3.5mm hack are unaffected. Speaker channel volumes are equal.

I haven't seen anyone else with this same specific issue though I know audio issues with the SD seem to be rampant. I've tried some simple fixes including the Factory reset which did not help.

Anyone have any ideas?

DO NOT DO THIS!

You loose your switch then be hung out to dry because there are no boards on the planet for replacement. That piece of METAL will crush that sensor when ever you are not paying attention or someone else picks up your deck and crushes that LB for either the killing blow or having a temper tantrum.

What you WANT to do is balance that bumper back into its floating neutral position by changing the spring. Yeah. the whole bumper is a floater, when your spring is tired (worn out, no oomph in the return) you get a dead head bumper. limp and weak. then you get mad crushing it, and then it stops clicking. and to get the clicking back, lets put metal over tiny portion of rubber and steal. no.

Change the spring. change the spring, change the spring. But, where do i get a spring? Duuh... any kind of clicking pen.

WAIT this is important. They are not you manufacture spec bumper springs. therefore, the onus is on you to correctly install the modified spring at a correct compression and length and diameter. And make sure the spring is a compression spring not an expansion spring. Just, ... compression. <--- squishy.

if you have the finger strength of a 50 year old martial arts veteran and the skin durability of a rhino, like me (i got my strength s another way), you can pretty much craft a good one with your fingers and not need gloves, band aids, eye protection, first aider on site, mom and/ or dad watching, At least wear eye protection PLEASE. a spring will cull your eyeball before you blink leaving you stunned, then panicking, then screaming, then terrors. PPE Personal Protective Equipment learn it and us it. Not a joke.

DO IT NOW! PPE.

So, you've rolled out a spring, with some stretching and twisting. good. Your reference for a good tension is, you guessed it, the opposite side of your device.

The length of your spring should be... not the same as the original. Because it's not an original, i recommend (if you are going to attempt this) starting with your hand made deformity longer than what is needed and clip .5 to 1 spiral at a time. There will be a point where your like this is ridiculous, and you cut more.... and now your spring is no good because it either too short or hasn't the tension you desire. So, 0.5 (ONE HALF, 1/2) to 1 (ONE, WHOLE Measure) SPIRAL at a time. For your sanity and bleeding finger tips cannot do another spring to save their lives.

Dollar Store get a cart fill it with different pens. Maybe you'll get lucky and China has made a pen just for you! I didn't find mine yet, but I'm close.

CHEERS! this works, well it did for me. Did the same for a trigger to.

So, one day. a few hours after putting down my steam deck, ii pick it back up to play again (any game, it's not relevant to the issue). Only to find that my in game function of the R2 trigger to fire is ZERO response to fire. But responds to menu tabbing in the pause screen? What the hell! I try different game, same thing.

Button function test... it works according to the test provided on the deck, however, it is constantly being pushed down. even though i snap release it trigger to have it come forward full velocity from its spring. I've tried removing key mappings and other linked actions to no avail.

Also the steam menu and '...' buttons are activating a mouse button instead of opening menus as they should. I cant seem to get that resolved either. There are too many half wit videos (they get you half way into something and stop). So, i haven't completely invested time into a reset of those buttons. Advise for this please.

I haven't opened a steam ticket either, i really just don't want to do that with the 8-16 interval msg responding time. Maybe later.

In summation

R2 is triggered, but not triggered by finger. Likes to function with selected core key mapping.

[(steam) menu], [. . .] buttons locked in some world of mouse and keyboard use and refuse to come back to gaming reality.

I am open to suggesting redoes of tests and functions or other new ideas to resolve these dudes. I am a master technician in hobby town. I can rebuild a deck, but only with a good guide. so i am comfortable opening up for surgery and doing closing as well.
