My engine will fire up then it dies. Sometimes I can get it to stay running but it struggles to stay running. I have put new air filter new spark plug replaced carburetor with 3 different ones. I’ve made sure the valves were right and I have replaced the gas cap. I’ve tried everything I could think of and just can’t figure it out. I’ve also replaced gaskets and everything looks good as far as cylinders and pistons.

Small Engine: No fuel to spark plug Briggs & Stratton #12T402-2136-F8

Ok. I’ve cleaned the carb (extensively), even put on a new one. Changed the oil, cleaned the fuel lines (all), new air filter, new spark plug, cleaned the gas tank, new fuel, everything I can think of. All gaskets are present. There is no fuel filter on this model. Throttle and choke checked. No gas leaks, no oil leaks. Any ideas? (Same thing is happening on my TROY built weedwacker also-weird).

Pls help!

Small Engine: Adjusting valves on 280000 and 310000 series briggs & stratton engines

I have two riding lawn mowers I decided to purchase to start re-learning small engine repair on. One has a 287707 14.5HP and the other has a 31H777 18HP Briggs and Stratton engine. Both are OHV Single Cylinder Series; 280000 and 310000 respectively.

First things first, I figure I’ll verify easy to reach parts that usually need inspection and adjusting.

Currently, I’m focused on the OHV Covers underside, i.e. inspecting all the parts and setting valve intake and exhaust rocker arm clearance.

This document shows the gap clearance requirements for the intake and exhaust valve’s with their rocker arm. http://www4.briggsandstratton.com/miscpd...

However, I haven’t found a repair manual for each engine series yet since the holidays and am therefore not sure what the torque specifications are for the adjustment stud, adjustment nut and adjustment lock screw.

Does anyone know what the repair or other manual for each engine series specifications are and maybe any recommended advice regarding torque specs?

4-Stroke Small Gas Engine: Why does my lawnmower start and die even with a new carburetor?

We have a Yard Machine push lawnmower with a 09p702-0004-F1 Briggs and Straton engine on it. We got the lawn mowed once this spring with it, but since then it has refused to run. It turns over, starts up and then dies.

After researching on the internet, we cleaned the carb with some carb cleaner. If you spray carb cleaner in it started and ran as you kept on spraying carb cleaner in. We took apart, then reassembled the carb. That didn’t help. We checked the fuel line - fuel flows freely out of it. Drained all of the fuel out, put in new fuel. Nope. Tried it with the gas tank cap off. Nada. Constantly pumping the primer once it starts doesn’t seem to help at all. Cleaned the spark plug.

We then ordered a replacement carburetor. Installed that today - still no go. It continues to turn over, start and then die immediate.

Where to go from here? The lawn grows longer by the day - we resorted to using the string trimmer on it last week . . .

Briggs and Stratton 675 Series Repair: Run problem on old Briggs and Stratton Troy Bilt tiller engine.

Engine will start if choke is closed, but dies when choke is opened. It will continue to run with choke almost closed for a short time, then it dies. I've verified that there is not a problem with the fuel line or filter. When the line is disconnected from the carburetor, fuel flows freely. This tiller is an early version build date in the early to mid seventies.

Small Engine: Bogging or engine slows down when turned to full throttle.

I have a brand new 66cc motor kit that mounts onto a bicycle frame is known as an 80cc Skyhawk but in Canada it's 66cc.

I used a High-Performance carb but I couldn't get it to idle slowly with that carb I backed the idle screw nearly all the way out and the engine ran faster and then it blew the spark plug right out of the cylinder head.

In response to this I put the stock carburettor on and now she runs fairly well aside from the fact that I can't throttle past 1/4 throttle and it sure would be nice to be able to get the rest of the power from the engine.

Everything is brand new when it's idling she purrs. Another thing that happens is when I throttle down the engine takes a few moments to idle down which is odd.

When I am riding and try to go past 1/4 throttle the engine slows down and I may as well be peddling but at 1/4 I can get to around 30 KPH but she can go faster if I can figure out what is causing the issue with either carburettor but I am not sure what problem I am looking for and am hoping someone can help direct me.
