PSP 2000: PSP working with power supply but functioning batteries not detected

Hi,

I am experiencing a weird issue on my PSP 2006 and I wonder if any one got an answer for that. I am trying my luck as I could not find such existing thread online (yet)! Basically, the PSP do not recognize batteries, which are proven to work on another PSPs, though PSP works when connected to wall socket.

Well, in nutshell:

- PSP works while connected to power outlet

- PSP does not even start when on battery.

- When plugged in with battery, if I disconnect the power supply cable, PSP will turn off immediately

- When plugged in with battery, the battery indicator at the top right of the screen shows 3 bars and disappears alternatingly every 5 seconds or so.

- When plugged in with battery, when going to the battery info menu it does not disclose the details (dashes) and power source shows as "Exernal"

- The PSP battery port (3 pins) looks just fine.

- I have contacted a PSP repair shop but they mentioned it could be a mobo issue which they are not exactly handling...

Where could the issue come from?

Thanks in advance !

Oli

PSP 2000: Cannot recognise or detect battery

Hi,just dug out my old psp2000 but it won't run on battery. I've tried for days.

I am sure its not the battery because it worked on another Psp. And i tried 3 batteries on it, all don't work.

The psp runs fine with ac power. It charges the battery (orange light) but for a minute or two only and then cuts off.

Running on battery only is impossible.

Is there a way to change the battery pin? Or do i have to change the board? Cos it might not be worth it. Thx.

PSP 2000: Device not able to charge from any power source

Hello Community,

I have a PSP 2000 that was given to me as a gift for a birthday. Last December I took it on a flight with me to Hawaii. It stayed in my Hotel room but I believe it may have met it's demise under a wet towel.

I cannot get the unit to charge or power on when plugged into an internal power source. I have tried swapping the battery. This has presented to relief for my dead hand held. Sony has said they will not repair it.

Is there any repair that is recommended before I just go pick up a new PSP? Thanks for your time.

My psp only turns on when plugged in via charger, I tried using other psp batteries (brand new class a) so I plugged in the battery, it has the orange light a sign of charging but still it won't recognize by psp, the battery information says (battery external) and the other information are blank

PSP 2000: Issue with power fuse

Hi there, bit of an odd one. Perhaps someone with a bit more electronics background could advise what the issue is here.

Issue: PSP doesn't power on. Charges fine.

On investigating the issue I checked the power fuse (Marked TB) with a multimeter to see if that was the issue. The fuse showed continuity so assumed it was fine.

Then by accident I checked the fuse again while a battery was connected and as I test the fuse with the multimeter the PSP powers on.

Is the fuse the issue? Seems when I bridge it that it powers on automatically, but why if the fuse is giving me audible continuity when I check it?

PSP 2000: PSP 2001 LCD Vertical grey bar growing

I purchased a silver PSP 2001 second hand as is. I have no knowledge of how it was treated. When I turn it on, everything functions, but on the far right had side of the screen there is a vertical grey bar maybe 1/16 of an inch thick. There are also a couple of vertical lines of duplicated pixels. The longer I have the console on, the more glitchy the screen becomes, and the wider the grey vertical line grows.

I have tried to disconnect the LCD, clean everything with alcohol, then put it back together, and there was no change whatsoever. If you think its an LCD issue, I just want to make sure it isn’t a motherboard issue, or something else that is fixable.

Thanks!

Update (12/20/2018)

Thank you so much for the response. I swapped the LCD with a different one and it worked just fine, so yes something must be wrong with the LCD. I’ll have to look closer at the ribbon cable. Is the cable sandwiched in there? Can you replace the ribbon cable?
