Steam Deck OLED: Screen Glitching after a short amount of playtime.

So yesterday I disassembled my deck, repasted the thermal paste. Didn't realize til after I should have put it in battery saver mode in bios before opening it and when I put it back together it wouldn't turn on for a bit. After leaving it plugged in it eventually turned back on and ran as normal for a few minutes. Eventually I got these weird stripes on the screen and now if I turn it on, there is no telling how long it will take exactly but the screen will start showing weird artefacts like no one's business.

I am keeping an eye on the temperatures and I don't think it's related to temps and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when it will happen, but it just seems like if I play for it long enough it will sooner than later glitch us usually requiring a reboot.

I know I messed up not using battery saver mode, but is there anything else i might have done wrong here?

I got new triggers and I mean the plastic that you press to use them. And they are two pieces the one you press and the one that holds that piece on that piece has a little magnet in it and I lost mine during the replacement so my triggers won’t work. I can’t find a replacement anywhere please help

Asus ROG Ally: Repairing a dead unit

I brought a Rog ally off eBay with a bios lock on it, my plan for that was to pin directly to the bios chip and flash it. However, upon receiving the device it now has no signs of life.

Upon taking it apart I can see it has been opened before and a bigger battery has been put it.

When inspecting the board I can see any obvious signs of damage but I have noticed that if I disconnect the main ribbon cable from the left joystick board and then plug it into power I now get a red led on the charging light. It stays solid for a few seconds and then flashes. When this happens it draws around 20.12v at 0.010a. when I reconnect the joystick board I get no led.

My first thought is that there is something wrong with the joystick board. I just wanted to see if anyone has had any similar issues before and if they know if the device can still boot if the joysticks are not connected.

Hey there,

After the USBC Port replacement my Steam Deck still did not charge. I double checked each line from the port to be sure everything is good there now. It had troubles recognizing one of two usb orientations and failed to make the PD handshake. After I checked everything and removed this IC, as I suspected it to be faulty everything startet up again.

Now I can not identify this IC to replace it. It has most likely a marking on it „3m“ and above there is something like an 8. Here are some Photos of the IC that I made. I think it’s size is something about 0,8-0,9mm.

One of the four pads is connected to ground. I think after the Port damage this IC was burnt and shorted to ground, so that’s why it started working now again.

Does anyone know for sure what the replacement part for this is? Thanks!

Hello! This is my first time posting here.

A while ago, I sent my Steam Deck for repairs to a non-partner store, hoping to get it done quick and cheap. Instead, they royally screwed up the repair. When I had a friend (who's job is to make and repair custom PCs) look at it, they said the L4 sensor was missing, they removed a ton of the cooling paste, and most importantly: a capacitor meant for charging was gone. Without it, it can only charge at 15 watts.

I tried asking Steam Support, but they said they can't help with that. So now I'm hoping someone here knows. What's the missing capacitor, and where can I get a replacement?

Xbox Series X: Xbox Series X No HDMI / No VCore - Southbridge alive but stuck in POST (0V APU Inductors)

I am troubleshooting an Xbox Series X that turns on (fan spins indefinitely) but outputs no HDMI signal and does not chime on a normal boot. However, when attempting to enter Safe Mode, the console successfully chimes (though still no display).

Here is what I have tested and verified so far:

**HDMI & Display Path:**

Replaced the HDMI connector, ESD booster, and Retimer IC.
Verified 5V outputting from the load switch (2151) to Pin 19.
Verified 3.3V on all inputs to the Retimer IC, with no shorts to ground.
Verified correct voltages at the input and enable pins of the load switch (2151).
Verified continuity from each HDMI data pin to the Retimer IC.
Verified diode mode readings on all 19 pins of the HDMI port (700mV on data pins, healthy readings on pins 13-19). One TVS diode is missing but the pin still reads exactly 700mV.
None of the capacitors between the Retimer and APU are shorted.

**SSD Status:**

Read the NVMe SSD on a PC via CrystalDiskInfo: 100% Health (SSSTC 1TB).
Checked partitions: E through I open perfectly on Windows. Partition D (1.0GB RAW) is intact (correct XBFS format behavior). Only partition F is marked "dirty" (normal after abrupt shutdowns).

**Motherboard & Power Rails:**

Performed an APU clamp pressure test during boot; the issue remained the same.
Checked the main APU core power inductors (R15 silver chokes): **Only reading 0.01V - 0.02V (VCore is missing entirely).**
Inductor resistance to ground: Some show 90 ohms, some show 2 ohms (standard for APU rails). Almost all beep on continuity which is expected for these low resistances.
DrMOS / Power Phase chips (MP86910/12): Checked all diode readings on the main power rails and bootstrap capacitors adjacent to each chip. All phase readings are healthy and uniform with no significant deviations.

Since the Southbridge is alive enough to trigger the chime in Safe Mode, but the VRM never receives the signal to enable VCore on a normal boot, what should I check next? Could this be a corrupted SPI Flash / BIOS chip, a missing 1.8V standby rail, or a trace issue elsewhere?

Nintendo Switch 2: two usbc ports damaged and not charging

Switch 2 with both charging ports damaged. Replaced both ports and only 2 data lines were damaged on the main bottom port. Installed new lines and they show good on tester. There were 6 total ground lines damaged. 3 on top and 3 on the bottom. Replaced both ports and both ports are getting .512 amps. System is not jumping to the next stage to charge or turn on system. Not sure where to look on these. I don't see anything like a M92/P13/BQ or caps that test/look bad. Has anyone else had anything similar that was obvious? Much thanks for any guidance.
