Currently, there is no sound coming out of the main speaker. I replaced it with a brand new speaker (twice) and still no luck. I have conducted a conductivity test on the speaker itself (good), on the wires leading from the speaker to the motherboard (good), and on the motherboard solder joints (good).

I have tested the headphone jack. When headphones are plugged in, I do get sound from them. Spinning the volume control does increase and decrease the sound. Unplugged and no sound from the main speaker. Tested conductivity from the headphone disconnect to the motherboard and it’s good (so the speaker disconnect doesn’t appear to be stuck). Just to be sure, I plugged in and out a jack a dozen times just in case to loosen it. Still no sound.

I tested the original speaker that came with the Gameboy, it actually still has conductivity so it appears to be working fine. This Gameboy was stored for the past 10 - 12 years in a cardboard box in an outdoor garage. No water damage to the box but it was subjected to extreme conditions (-10 to -60 degree winters, 80 to 100 degree summers). No batteries were stored in the Gameboy so no erosion or acid damage. Before being placed into storage, the speaker worked fine. All other aspects of the Gameboy seem to be working just fine; no screen distortion, powers on and off fine, and plays any game put into it.

I can’t figure it out and it’s bugging me. Sure, I can play games with headphones on but I REALLY want sound from the main speaker. If I’m missing something, I can’t figure out what it is. Any help (besides buying a new GBC, hehe) would be helpful. Thank you.

this game has gave me trouble in the past but now it won't boot at all whatsoever. now all I get is the Game Boy Color logo and just "®".

I have tested every of your game on your own and it always results with always booting or requiring a bit of coaching to get it booting

I tried it when a Pokemon yellow cartridge but the game won’t start. I have a blank screen without sound. I tested this same cartridge with an other GBC and it works fine, which means that the problem doesn’t originate from the cartridge.

I tried to look at the pins in the cartridge receiver of the GBC, but it also seems fine.

Does someone have encountered a similar issue ?

Problem:

Whenever I start the game it boots up like normal. I select new game and the intro plays except after choosing the time the screen goes black and sometimes reveals the bottom left part of the screen before it froze for about a half a second. After skipping through a few of the text messages (probably starts when the name your character screen appears) it either shows a white screen, throws up a bunch of data, or restarts the game with a glitched color palette (sometimes rare.)

What I've tried:

I have tried everything, I've tried blowing into the cartridge, cleaning it with a q-tip, and I have tried checking the battery and the battery was brand-new. I've also tried cleaning the Gameboy Color inside and replacing the batteries.

If anybody can find a solution that would be great. There is a chance though that It might just be corrupted.

EDIT #1:

Loaded it into my GBA. The game plays normally except for battles and battle or battle like sprites (such as Professor Oak in the beginning) are garbles, static things look like they're corrupted. Keep in mind the cartridge was acting normally before this even became an issue. Battles seem to give the enemy and your Pokemon infinite health after using an attack, making trainer battles impossible. Other than that runs completely normally and exactly like the original. I also made sure it was the original by watching some gameplay videos of it.

EDIT #2:

I Looked inside the cartridge to see if I could see any problems. One thing that I didn't notice at first was that the battery inside was small and didn't fit the battery outline. So I compared it to the other batteries that I have and it seemed to fit perfectly in the outline, so what I'm thinking is, the battery is small and causing some problems. So once I have the tools to desolder and solder in the new batteries, I guess I just have to wait.

EDIT #3:

No success on changing the battery. Same results. So I guess I’ll just have to buy a new cartridge. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

Here’s what I’ve checked and know is NOT the problem:

• Dust in the gamepak - I know because I tried the blowing trick for both the gamepak and the slot. No luck with resolving the issue.
• Improperly inserted in the slot - I’ve tried taking the gamepak out and putting it back in, and double checking that it was inserted properly. Neither of these helped.
• The gamepak itself - it works just fine on the spare GameBoy Color.
• A bug/glitch in the game - I’ve double checked to see if certain actions/locations trigger the issue and does not seem to be the case.
• Accidently switching power to off - I’m not that careless while playing games, and the switch is still in the on position each time I checked to make sure my hand didn’t slip and accidently slide the switch to off.
• Batteries - I immediately changed the batteries after the first couple times of this happening, but doesn’t help the issue.

What could be causing this and how do I repair it myself?

I was wondering about any ideas or best methods to repair the tiny pads on this game boy color mother board. I ripped them like an idiot. Pictures are attached.

My first question here. I have a Gameboy color that won’t turn on. Things I’ve tried:

-Walked through the ifixit teardown video

-Cleaned all electronic parts and board with Isopropyl Alcohol

-Changed the batteries ( I knew this must be said)

-Visually checked the soldered parts and capacitors

This thing looks as clean as the day it was bought. I don’t know why it won’t turn on. No light no sound, nothing. Any thoughts on what to do next? (I’m in IT networking, but new to electronics so go nice and easy on me haha) Thanks for any help!

I cleaned the switch components really well with IA and still no activity. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Speakers: Very low, even with the volume wheel turned all the way up. It’s also very crackly sounding (for lack of better words).

Headphone Jack: The volume wheel works as it should through the headphones, but there is an ever present and incredibly loud crackling noise that accompanies the audio, regardless of what volume I have the Gameboy turned up/down to.

Why is this happening and how should I go about repairing this myself?

I bought new speakers for my Gameboy Color and I saw that the wires where completely broken so I desoldered them and now I need to buy new wire for replacement, but what kind of wire is this? and what size?

When the switch is in the on position and I put batteries in, everything is fine.

When I turn the switch off, it turns off (although the last picture stays for a while on the screen) But here comes the issue. If I put batteries in while turned off, and I turn the power switch on, the power light just flickers shortly but the console does not turn on. This is repeatable.

Switchposition ON: put batts in, works fine

Turn OFF, Gamboy turns off, although picture remnants.

try to turn on again, Powerlight flickers but nothing happens...

I desoldered it already, to check if there is no short cleaned it up once more with alkohol, resoldered, same issue.

The problem seems to come in the transition from pins C + 1 to C+3 which causes something, but I have no clue
